It seems like this day has come very quickly . About two and a half years ago I received the nomination as District 6330 Governor for the 2017-2018 year – something I consider an honour and a privilege. As we enter this new year, our district, and Rotary International more generally, look forward to exciting, and challenging, times.

Rotary has accomplished so much. Polio eradication may soon become a significant part of Rotary's legacy. We are, quite literally, on the verge of a countdown to zero - complete eradication - an achievement that very likely could not have been reached without Rotary’s involvement. We can, and should, be justifiably proud. But, we need to see it through, to continue the effort until eradication is complete.

We are also experiencing significant challenges. Rotary membership in North America is declining. If Rotary is to remain relevant and continue to have an impact in our local communities and throughout the world, we will have to attract more, and younger, members.

How we accomplish that will be the focus for our coming Rotary year. We'll encourage all clubs to take advantage of the flexibility offered by our most-recent Council On Legislation.

Our new Rotary International President Ian Riseley has chosen a simple, yet very effective, theme. After all, making a difference is what we do.

Every day, in ways large and small, we make a difference in the lives of people in our local communities, and internationally. In many cases, in the lives of people we will never meet.

In 2017-2018 let’s change the face of Rotary in District 6330.

Together we can make a difference.
