From Your District Governor

Where did the summer go? Welcome home to those that have been away for the summer.

It's hard to imagine that the children in our families and our neighborhoods will soon return (or have already returned) to school. September is a busy time as we get back to regular routines at home, at work, and in our Rotary club.

Apropos to this back to school time of year, September is Basic Education and Literacy month for Rotary. Most, if not all, clubs in our district actively support literacy projects both in their communities and internationally. We can be proud of our many achievements in literacy including just a couple of examples like the Grade 3 Dictionary project supported by many of our clubs, and international projects that furnish and supply schools where there is great need.

We are encouraged to support Basic Education and Literacy projects as a primary area of focus through our Foundation. Our Foundation enables Rotarians to help ensure that all people have sustainable access to basic education and literacy by involving local and international communities to support programs that provide basic education and literacy throughout their community, by increasing adult literacy in communities, by working to reduce gender disparity in education, and by supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to basic education and literacy.
