The Rotary Calendar designates February as Peace and Conflict Resolution Month
Rotary International President Ian Rieseley has put 3 of his 6 Presidential Peace Conferences in February in honour of the designation of February as Peace and Conflict Resolution Month.
Peace building is not only a major focus of Rotary's current president, it is also one of Rotary's Six Areas of Focus and has been a major focus of Rotary for decades. Think of our Rotary Youth Exchange Program - building peace one young person and one friendship at a time.
During February I encourage you to consider what you and your club can do to further peace building in your community (maybe even in your own club) and internationally
- one friendship at a time.
There is still time to signup for the closest February peace conference:
February 9-11 - Environmental Sustainability and Peace, Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Registration for this event closes on February 4. Details can be found here.
2018-19 RI President Barry Rassin wants Rotary members to Be the Inspiration
Rotary International President-elect Barry Rassin laid out his vision for the future of the organization on Sunday, calling on leaders to work for a sustainable future and to inspire Rotarians and the community at large.
Rassin, a member of the Rotary Club of East Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, unveiled the 2018-19 presidential theme, Be the Inspiration, to incoming district governors at Rotary’s International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA. “I want you to inspire in your clubs, your Rotarians, that desire for something greater. The drive to do more, to be more, to create something that will live beyond each of us.”
Rotary launched a new public image campaign some months ago called - "Rotary: People Of Action" - a lot of materials have been developed to help clubs get the word out about what they do in their communities and around the world.
Recently, the Rotary clubs in San Diego, California used these People of Action materials to display large posters and video clips at the San Diego airport - visible to all passengers travelling through the facility. The displays were in place for 2 weeks, including the time period for the International Assembly (training for next year's District Governors).
This was Rotary public image promotion on a grand scale to be sure - but - some of the ideas may apply to your club for promotion in your town. If you're interested, you can read the full article here.
Interact clubs around the world showed how they make a difference in the ninth annual Interact Video Awards! Congratulations to the Interact Club of Mark R. Isfeld Secondary for being named “Best Video” award winner for their “People of Action” video. The judges also recognized three runners-up for sharing their inspirational stories: The Interact Clubs of Alexandria, Plovdiv, and Sfax Doyen.
Get inspired — watch all the finalist's videos and learn how to get a head start on creating your own video for next year's Interact Video Awards.
Three of our District 6330 Interact clubs submitted videos to participate in the contest - congratulations to all participants - the videos are outstanding.
