Pat Cavan - Area 1

Clubs: Northern Bruce Peninsula, Wiarton, Hepworth-Shallow Lake, Southampton, Port Elgin, Paisley

Patricia Cavan joined the Rotary Club of Wiarton in July 2009, one year before she retired. During her career as a secondary school math teacher and Kindergarten to Grade 12 school principal she had met many Rotary Exchange Students and joined the club with one goal – to get the Youth Exchange Program going again in Wiarton.

By the time the first round of exchanges was completed Pat was hooked on many other aspects of Rotary, with International Projects near the top of the list. As a member of the District 6330 Hand Up Committee, Pat has travelled to Cameroon three times, once with Interact students. Following her passion for working with youth, Pat also served as the District 6330 Interact Co-chair from 2015 – 2018.

With the Rotary Club of Wiarton, Pat has held varying positions including Club President for the 2013-2014 year, Youth Exchange Officer, Youth Protection Officer and Public Image Chair. Pat has been active in developing the club’s social media presence and currently works with an active committee maintaining and expanding the club’s Facebook page and website.

Pat enjoys travelling and prefers to get “off the beaten track”. Since retiring she has spent about a month each winter in varying countries in Central America including Costa Rica, Belize, Nicaragua and Guatemala. She has also travelled to both the east and west coasts of Canada, France, Germany and Iceland.

When at home Pat enjoys hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing and gardening. She heads to the gym most mornings, but likes that ‘early morning’ is now 9:00am and not 5:30am!!

Pat is the very proud mother of Brianna, a midwife and former Rotary Youth Exchange Student. Brianna also participated in two New Generations Exchanges, taking her midwifery skills to Cameroon and Bolivia.
