Mike Hurry has been a member of the Rotary Club of Sarnia since May 2002.  He was club President in 2017-18 and the Rotary Club of Sarnia Foundation President in 2018-19.  Currently serving as Assistant Governor for Area 5 since July 2021.  Mike has completed the three levels of the Rotary Leadership Institute, is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a Benefactor and a Bequest Society member. Now retired from his position as the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sarnia-Lambton, he continues to do fundraising for the organization.
 
Married to wife Debra Wright for 47 years, they have two boys Jamie 24 and Brandon 22.  Maggie their Golden Doodle completes the family.
 
Mike is an avid adventure traveler.  His favourite vacations are those where he is under his own power whether climbing, trekking, canoeing or cycling.  He has climbed mountains on five continents including Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, Denali, Elbrus and made a summit attempt on Mount Everest in 2011.  Many of these climbs raised money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sarnia-Lambton the agency he retired from in 2021 as the agency Executive Director.  In all the groups that Mike has escorted on these adventures have raised in excess of $800,000 for the agency.
 
He has taken part in a number of overseas charitable builds including building homes in the slums in the Dominican Republic, a kitchen at a school in Kenya and the rebuilding of a school in Haiti.
 
In 2022 Mike cycled from Victoria BC to Marathon in Ontario.  He will finish his cross Canada ride this summer when he cycles from Marathon to Cape Spear in Newfoundland.  Through the support of Rotary Clubs in Area 5 this cross-Canada ride became the Rotary Ride for Kids.  To date this ride has raised an additional $60,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters.  You can follow Mike’s cycling trip on his blog at TheRotaryRideforKids.com
