Happy Canada Day to all you Ontarians and wishing all of you in Michigan a Happy 4th of July.
I am honoured and thrilled to be your incoming Governor for 2019-20. Sylvia and I are looking forward to meeting you throughout the year.
What do think of this year’s theme?… “Rotary Connects the World”
It is true in so many ways!
Rotary is built on connections right from the first day Paul Harris came to Chicago as a young man. He established Rotary as a way of connecting to others in the city. Whether it be though our service projects, action groups, fellowships, exchanges, the internet or social media we are really truly connected more than ever.
Did you know that you can now get an app to see the District Directory via Club Runner?
Just down load the Club Runner app and you will be instantly connected. No need for any more hard copy directories. Check it out, and ensure your club’s information is up to date.
President Mark Maloney has 4 main emphasises for the year:
First: Grow the Rotary family
The District is looking to form 15 new clubs, be they Rotary, Satellite, Rotaract or Interact by 2022
to increase giving to the Foundation by 10 percent by 2022, to enable an increase in our humanitarian impact by funding more District and Global Grants
Second: Make Rotary more family friendly
Mark is asking each club to host a family friendly event during the year
Third: Remove barriers
we need to help younger, diverse members aspire to leadership roles so our future leaders don’t look like just a bunch of grey haired old men
Finally: Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations
as you may know Rotary was closely involved with the formation of the United Nations and RI will be organizing a series of events later in the year
This year sees the start of our new Strategic Plan which includes our new Vision Statement:
Together, we see a world where people unite to make lasting change
– across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves.
The District is in the process of realigning its plan with this new direction and I encourage you to revisit your own club’s plan as we adapt to an ever changing world.
For those who don’t have a plan or your plan is need of some work, take a look at the Rotary Citation. This provides a useful guide to what a good club should be striving for. The citation is realistic and achievable, so when I visit with you I will be interested in your progress, hearing your views and where you would like help from the District.
Last year we achieved a significant net gain in members. It is vital we continue to build on this momentum, whilst at the same time ensuring our new members are fully involved so we may do even more good in the world or, as one young Rotaractor said at the Hamburg Convention, “DOGOODERY!” ………..I believe this will be the word of the year!
Sylvia and I are looking forward to seeing you all in the coming months, as we work together to grow Rotary, make a difference and connect the world!

Sea Container of Food and Relief Supplies sent to RC of Chimoio Mozambique May 14/19
It was a relief (no pun intended) to finally get the sea container loaded May 14. The process was complicated by the language barrier (Portuguese) and the fact that we have never loaded a full container of food aid but with some creative thinking by the loading crew it finally came together.
