December is Rotary
Disease Prevention
and Treatment!
Welcome to December!
An email I received recently inspired my message for this month and I would like to share its contents with you. The email was titled “Taking Care of Others by First Taking Care of Yourself” and contained information on a webinar. The link can be found HERE .
The webinar is focused on servant leadership, which is not everyone’s cup of tea, but the message is a good one— you cannot lead others effectively when you aren’t taking care of yourself.
Similarly, I just led two days of leadership workshops and two themes arouse: “it starts with self” and “build relationships”. We can’t be our best if we aren’t taking care of ourselves. We also can’t build relationships—which is at the core of our every interaction in Rotary and beyond.
These messages are timely for me (and perhaps many of you). The holidays are a lot. The workdays are cut short by time off, holiday happenings, shopping, and (if you are like my household) sickness. Take care of yourself first. Enjoy time with family and friends.
To have your event listed, put it on your ClubRunner Calendar or send an email with details for your upcoming event to the Editor. Your feedback, suggestions, and submissions are welcomed.
If you have a story to tell, pictures to show off, or an event to publicize, please send it to the editor and we will publish it and/or make sure it gets on the District 6330 website.

Our Rotary club heard through the grapevine that we are not "accessible." Do you think this will impact our appeal to potential members? How can we make sure that we are "accessible?"
Dear Rosie,
Yes this will have a negative impact on your appeal to guests and also to retaining members who may have changing needs. There are many aspects to accessibility and you may wish to contact me to arrange for one of our Membership Team Accessibility Coaches to do an assessment of your venue. (We ask you to meet us on zoom and walk us through using your cell phone or other device.)
Here are some ways to start your preliminary assessment:
OUTSIDE
1. Does the parking lot provide spaces where a vehicle can unload a wheelchair or scooter? From the parking lot is there a curb or can one travel easily to the door?
2. Are there any stairs - even one? If so, is there a ramp or elevator that will accommodate a person with an assistive device?
3. Is the surface cleared and not slippery? Is the paving material easy to walk on if using crutches to maintain balance?
4. Does the door open without using your hands? Does it remain open until the person and device have completely entered? Is there a second door and does a wheel chair block it or is there room for it to also be opened without using the hands?
Inside issues will be addressed next month in The Bridge.
Every three years, Rotarians meet at the Council on Legislation to review and vote on proposed changes to the legislation that governs Rotary. In April 2022 they consider enactments, which change Rotary’s governing documents, and position statements by the RI Board. The online learning, zone institute training has been completed; and, the enactments are available to review and study. Interested Rotarians can access the proposed legislation through the link provided. https://my.rotary.org/en/document/proposed-legislation-2022-council-legislation.
As well, the annual cycle of the COR is in full swing for October and November 2021 to review and vote on the resolutions made to the RI Board and the Trustees of the Rotary Foundation. The resolutions are also available for all Rotarians to view and study. Click here to access the proposed resolutions.
An interesting change has been occurring during the past couple of COL/COR cycles and it has to do with the number of proposed enactments and resolutions put forward. This year the COL will be reviewing 92 proposed enactments and 36 proposed resolutions, down greatly from years past when 300-400 documents were not unusual. Improved review of eligible proposals by RI as well as grouping of proposals that are addressing the same issue have made the process much more efficient.
Should any Rotarians have questions or comments about our important parliamentary process please let me know.
