Access to clean water and sanitation is one of the world’s biggest challenges to health. Today 1 in 3 people (around 2.3 billion) lack clean water. When people have access to safe drinking water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families.
I would be interested in hearing from clubs on what you are doing to recognise World Water Day on March 22nd.
I am particularly grateful to Bob Carson from the Wiarton Club who introduced me to Rotary Hand Up and then encouraged me to lead a global grant application to bring clean water for 10,000 people in 4 villages in NW Cameroon. Working on this project made me better understand the power of our Foundation, the challenge of writing and managing humanitarian projects and to experience firsthand the importance of clean water to communities less fortunate than ours.
Our District has a proud record of championing clean water causes. Only last month the Flint Club saw the completion of a “Living Water” Project in Haiti and the Stratford Club’s Aqua Box program continues to successfully provide simple water purification solutions for individual families. Check out Clifford Rotary Club's Rolling Hippos Challenge in this months Bridge. A fun way to create awareness of water related issues and fulfil a need.

One common question I received during my DG visits concerned new fundraising ideas:
"Do I know of easier or of any less labour intensive fund raising ideas?"
At the end of the month we have received 17 responses and I am particularly grateful to Rob Dors from Owen Sound who submitted 7. I am seeking your input so we can provide a composite list of current successful fundraising programs in use throughout our District.
If your club has not completed the survey yet just click here and complete the survey form. It should take around 15 minutes to complete. You may submit more than one activity if you wish by completing additional questionnaires. The results of this survey will be complied into a spreadsheet and shared on the District 6330 Website so others may adopt and adapt them for their use.
Registration is now open for the Seminar for Tomorrow’s Leaders, Program May 8-10th, London. I am delighted that the Satellite Club of London have taken over the running of the event which is now in its 59th year. We have a capacity to take 100 students and last year we only had 70 so I encourage you all to register your local students and your Youth Exchange Students as this weekend activity is truly a life changing event.
March is the month we celebrate Rotaract — it is exciting, that last week the new Flint Rotaract Club was granted its Certificate of Organization and that the new Community based Rotaract Club in London sponsored by the Rotary Club of London Hyde Park will be making an application in early March.
Grow Rotary, remains our focus going forward, whether it be attracting more members, starting new clubs, increasing our volunteer effort, increasing Foundation giving so we may increase our impact by doing bigger and better projects or simply growing ourselves as better people.
To have your event listed, put it on your ClubRunner Calendar or send an email with details for your upcoming event to the Editor. Your feedback, suggestions, and submissions are welcomed.
If you have a story to tell, pictures to show off, or an event to publicize, please send it to the editor and we will publish it and/or make sure it gets on the District 6330 website.

In 1953, at the age of 28, Mr. Edward Hirst of Burnaby, B.C. was overcome by polio. Left paralyzed from the hips down, he was confined to a wheelchair. In order to support his young family, he used his woodworking skills to design and produce a cribbage board, in the shape of 29, the highest score that can be achieved in a single cribbage hand.
My name is Lauren Ing, and I am a student at Western University in London, Ontario, and am a sponsorship and fundraising executive for Engineers in Action at my university. Engineers in Action (EIA) is a global organization working with indigenous professionals to improve communities through sustainable initiatives. Western University’s student-run chapter of EIA is looking to increase our involvement this summer. As a part of the EIA Bridge Building Program our goal is to help diminish rural, isolated poverty through the construction of pedestrian footbridges. By doing so, we allow communities to gain better access to basic resources such as water, healthcare, education, and agriculture.
