December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month

Disease prevention and treatment takes on many forms, from supporting studies, to providing immunizations, to improving drinking water and sanitation infrastructure. The world relies on Rotary to tackle these global challenges, and to set an example for others to follow.

Promoting Peace, Providing Clean Water, Saving Mothers and Children,
Supporting Education, Growing Local Economies, and Fighting Disease.

Rotary supports activities and training that reduce the cause and effect of disease. The largest example is undoubtedly the Polio Plus initiative - for more than 30 years Rotary's major focus has been the worldwide eradication of polio.

At this time we are cautiously optimistic that we will see the end of that disease very soon. One of the legacies of the Polio Plus program is an infrastructure for helping to identify and control communicable disease throughout the world.

Our Foundation enables Rotarians to help prevent disease and promote health by:
  1. Improving the capacity of local health care professionals;
  2. Promoting disease prevention programs, with the goal of limiting the spread of communicable diseases and reducing the incidences of and complications from non-communicable diseases;
  3. Enhancing the health infrastructure of local communities;
  4. Educating and mobilizing communities to help prevent the spread of major diseases;
  5. Preventing physical disability resulting from disease or injury;
  6. Supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to disease prevention and treatment.
