In 1979, when most of the world's children were unvaccinated against polio, Rotary took on the cause of eliminating the crippling disease by universally vaccinating every child. Today, with more than 2.5 billion children worldwide vaccinated and immune from polio, new cases have be reduced to a few per year and contained to two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan.26-August-2026, World Health Organization

African health leaders convene for annual Regional Committee The 76th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa is meeting this week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to discuss urgent health issues affecting the region, including the Ebola outbreak response in DR Congo, responses to other outbreaks, as well as achieving and sustaining a lasting polio-free Africa.
